OUTBOUND FORMULA FORD RACER SARGENT STAYING ON THE GAS

After recently announcing his 2022 move to Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge, Tom Sargent will be back in action this weekend racing in the NSW Formula Ford Championship.

Over the last two seasons, Sargent has had his bid at an Australian Formula Ford title hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic, with 2020 being a non-championship year and this season’s edition making just two rounds before being halted once more. Nevertheless, Sargent leads the current point score after winning all but one race so far this year.

“It’s extremely important for us to finish off the season well; even though we are locked in for the Porsche next year we still want to achieve the goal we had laid out for myself before I progressed. That is to win the national series,” said Sargent.

The Australian Formula Ford Championship will have two more rounds in 2021, at Winton from November 12-14 before ending at Phillip Island. This weekend’s NSW Formula Ford Championship round affords Sargent the opportunity to reignite his year before heading to Winton.

“I’m super keen to get back racing, it’s been hard just waiting and sitting on my hands for the next opportunity to get on track but now it’s here I can’t wait.”

Sydney Motorsport Park is a happy hunting ground for Sargent, who clean sweet the opening round of the Australian Championship earlier this year.

“Eastern Creek is somewhere we’ve done well at in the past so it’s pretty exciting to get back there and see what we can do and hopefully show it to a pretty big audience with the Supercars coverage. The forecast looks a bit changeable however, so that could be a big dynamic in the weekend if it prevails and we do get some rain.

“It’ll be cool to get back together with the team and get the band back together.”

While his past form at the Western Sydney venue has been strong, Sargent is predicting a high level of competition this weekend.

“We’ll arrive with some confidence off the back of last time, but it’s a new round and a strong field, one of the strongest we’ve ever seen for a NSW State round.

“I’m expecting there will be a lot of closely-matched cars at the front of the field. It will be a fantastic spectacle for the fans watching us on TV, but we’ll have to bring our absolute A-game if we want to repeat our recent results.”

The NSW Formula Ford Championship will take place across November 6 and 7 as part of the ARMOR ALL Sydney SuperNight and will be broadcast live on Fox Sports.
