NOAH SANDS RELISHING BIG STAGE OPPORTUNITY

16-year-old Noah Sands is set for his first taste of racing on national television when the NSW Formula Ford Championship supports the Supercars at the ARMOR ALL Sydney SuperNight this weekend.

The event will mark Sands’ first race in a number of months after COVID-19 disruptions have wreaked havoc on the Australian Formula Ford calendar. Sands enjoyed a blistering start to his rookie year in the national series with two front-row qualifying performances in as many rounds, and was running third in the points before the series was suspended.

The opportunity to race on the support card for Supercars and receive national TV coverage through Fox Sports is not lost on Sands.

“It’s a dream come true to race alongside Supercars, it will be an awesome event and I’m really looking forward to running late in the day close to sunset, which will be new for me as well,” said Sands.

“After three months on the sidelines I don’t think I’ve ever been as excited as I am for this round, getting back in the seat, seeing the team again and catching up with everyone is going to make for a really cool couple of days.

“I miss everyone in the team – there are some people who I haven’t seen since the last round.”

Sands has enjoyed an impressive rookie year so far and has benefited from a positive relationship with his CHE Racing team mate Tom Sargent, who leads the national series.

“I’ve been doing my best to keep myself in the right mindset for when racing resumed, there’s been a bit of sim work and training but also taking the time to review Tom’s footage has been incredibly instructive,” Sands said.

The Australian Formula Ford Championship began at Sydney Motorsport Park this year, where after qualifying second, Sands demonstrated his speed with executed a series of strong recovery drives after being taken out in the weekend’s opening race.

“We had really good pace earlier this year at SMP, so hopefully I can have a clean weekend and a strong result,” he said.

Round three of the NSW Formula Ford Championship will appear across the two day ARMOR ALL Sydney SuperNight on November 6 and 7. The series will be broadcast as part of the coverage on Fox Sports.
