Jimmy Piszcyk extends National Formula Ford Series lead in home domination

CHE Racing Team’s Jimmy Piszcyk has extended his lead in the National Formula Ford Series after completing a clean-sweep at the latest round held on home turf at Sydney Motorsport Park.

It was a three-pronged attack for the CHE Racing Team at its home venue, Sydney Motorsport Park as state-based competitors joined the national series for the round enabling Imogen Radburn to join Piszcyk and Zak Lobko for her Australian Formula Ford Series debut.

But it was Piszcyk’s weekend after qualifying fourth on Saturday morning in what was an ultra competitive session where the top 11 were covered by less than a second.

Despite missing pole by just 0.363s, Piszcyk’s race intellect was on display as he rebounded to take a tight victory in the opening encounter to defeat key title rival Valentino Astuti to the flag by 0.271s.

Sunday provided more success as Piszcyk achieved CHE Racing Team’s second clean-sweep of the day after Tom Sargent did likewise in Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge at Queensland Raceway.

Piszcyk took full advantage of a problem for Astuti to take the win and build a significant points gap, while he continued his form to take the final victory on offer in convincing fashion to cap off a successful weekend for the CHE Racing Team.

For Lobko, he continues his rapid development by enjoying a strong weekend. Although he qualified 12th, Lobko continued to improve across the weekend finishing ninth in the opening encounter, which was followed by a season best sixth in Race 2.

Completing a trio of top 10 finishes for the weekend, Lobko raced to eighth in what was a solid round.

Following a season best finish in the New South Wales Formula Ford Championship last round at Wakefield Park, Radburn’s debut at the national level was promising as she achieved a trio of 17th place finishes, building up important experience.

The next round of the Australian Formula Ford Series is at Morgan Park in Warwick, Queensland on August 27-28.

“We had three race wins, couldn’t ask for more,” said Piszcyk. “The team at CHE gave me a great car all weekend, I can’t thank Colin and Cam enough. We did our best in the races and it’s showing in the results, with a nice lead in the series.

“We’ll work on the car ahead of Morgan Park, which I’m looking forward to.”

Zak Lobko
#7 Elite Attachments/CHE Racing Team

“I had a good weekend finishing in the top 10 in all three races,” Lobko remarked.

“I scored sixth in the second race, but I’m still learning and it’s good to finally get some results on the board to create some momentum for the next rounds to come.”

Imogen Radburn
#29 Ironman 4x4 Kinghorn

“I qualified in P21 and in Race 1 I came 17th where I had some good battles, but managed to get stuck behind some rivals though we pulled through,” Radburn explained.

“In Race 2 we finished 17th and I repeated that in the third, but had more battles and challenges. I had a lock up, which dropped me from 15th.

“It was a big learning weekend at my first national race and my fourth overall meeting for the year. ”

Cameron Hill
Team owner, CHE Racing

“It’s been a fantastic weekend here at Sydney Motorsport Park as Jimmy Piszcyk clean-swept it, with three race wins including his first at national level,” said Hill.

“It extended his series lead so it was an awesome weekend as Tom Sargent took three-from-three as well so it’s an amazing weekend to win two separate events in different states.

“Both Zak and Imogen did fantastic jobs, with each achieving personal bests.

“We’re really happy with how the weekend went and we can’t wait for the next one.”
