Tom Sargent has hit the ground running for this years Australian Formula Ford Championship, by topping every single session of the weekend and taking out overall round honours.

After qualifying on pole position, a clean getaway from the front row with CHE teammate Noah Sands allowed Sargent to start building a gap after an incident behind him in race one. Throughout the race Sargent maintained consistent pace setting lap times to cross the line first with a margin of victory of 1.8 seconds, with a commanding 10 second buffer over third.

“It’s really positive to start the season with a pole, and prove the pace we thought we’d have, the team worked really hard to get the car in this setup window and the margin we got in qualifying shows the effort they put in,” said Sargent.

“Getting that first win in the bank was brilliant for the team, it’s a great momentum booster that in hindsight we did carry through the weekend.”

Races two and three, both taking place on Sunday, again saw Sargent race away to record comfortable victories. The success across all three races for the weekend means Sargent leaves the opening round of the 2021 Australian Formula Ford Championship as the series points leader.

“This weekend has been amazing from everyone on the team, they’ve all done a fantastic job and given me a really fast car. Getting that pole was instrumental in setting up the rest of the weekend, being out front really allowed me to put my head down in the race and pull away.”

“We’ve started the season on the front foot, and we don’t want to lose that advantage, so we’ll work hard between rounds to keep ourselves out front,” concluded Sargent.

The Australian Formula Ford Championship heads to Wakefield Park Raceway on May 21-23 for round two of the season.
