Noah Sands will add another racetrack to his repertoire when he competes in the final round of the Australian Formula Ford Championship at Phillip Island this weekend.
It will be Sands’ first visit to the picturesque Victorian circuit, famous for holding rounds of the Moto GP and Superbike World Championships, along with many other high-profile events.
Sands has been a regular fixture at the front of the field in the national Formula Ford championship this season, and is still well-placed to score a top-three result in the standings despite some setbacks in the previous round at Winton a fortnight ago. The Leeton driver said he is not daunted by the challenge of learning a new track.
“I’m really excited to be racing at Phillip Island this weekend, most drivers rate it as one of their favourite tracks,” Sands said.
“It has very fast, flowing corners and the main straight is long, which means there will be lots of slipstreaming and exciting overtaking manoeuvres in the Formula Ford races. I’m expecting we’ll put on a great show for all the spectators.
“I’m looking forward to learning the track and I’m thankful I have my experienced team-mate Tom Sargent to learn from.”
While wet weather can often be a factor at Phillip Island, the forecast for this weekend is surprisingly fine.
“It’s ironic that my last two Formula Ford events at Sydney Motorsport Park and Winton have had wet races, and that Phillip Island is probably going to produce the best weather we’ve had for a while!” Sands said.
“Anyway, it should be an entertaining weekend and I’m aiming to finish the season on a high note, and hopefully score a good finishing position in the title race.”
This weekend’s Formula Ford round will consist of qualifying and race one on Saturday, followed by races two and three on Sunday.
