Phillip Island hosts the penultimate round of the Australian Formula Ford Series where the CHE Racing Team will head aiming to build on a tough Sandown event more than a month ago.
Red flags in qualifying and incidents during the opening race proved setbacks early at Sandown, but Lachlan Strickland bounced back to finish just outside the top 10, while Imogen Radburn moved up an impressive nine positions in one lap.
Happy memories remain from the CHE Racing Team’s last visit to the holiday getaway as the squad’s 2021 Australian Formula Ford Series winner Tom Sargent secured the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge title at the venue back in November.
Phillip Island is a circuit enjoyed by both Strickland and Radburn as the duo continue to improve during their maiden national series campaigns.
Held together with the Victorian State Circuit Racing Championships on September 22-24, the race action will be broadcast via BlendLineTV’s livestream across both days.

“Racing-wise I think we’re pretty good,” said Strickland.
“We’re coming off Sandown where we learnt a lot, so if we can transition this new knowledge we have from qualifying and through the first few races, and execute it well at Phillip Island I think we’ll be in for a pretty good weekend.
“Sandown was executed well, it’s just a lot of things that didn't go our way, so if the pendulum swings and we get some luck I think we’re in for a good result. Plus, the circuit is mega!
“Racing at Phillip Island previously, it’s the rawest experience in a car. All the other circuits are very technical, whereas at Phillip Island you really feel the speed.
“If we can learn from the rounds this year and execute in the next two events it sets us up for 2024. You look at the times and where we may have been at Sandown if it wasn’t for the incident in Race 1, a podium or top five was on the cards, so I’m bringing a positive mindset to Phillip Island.”
Imogen Radburn
#29 Radburn Racing Team/CHE Racing Team
“I’m looking forward to Phillip Island this weekend,” said Radburn.
“I never used to like it, but it is definitely one I enjoy now. We did a test day earlier this year as a super sprint format where it was five laps each stint, which has helped me in qualifying and the opening three push laps during a race.
“My aim for Phillip Island is to continue my progress, Sandown wasn’t the best weekend for me though I made up nine positions in the opening lap in Race 2. I believe I’m improving and I just want to build on this.
“I’m lucky to be in a position to be driving. I have my graduation and formal before jumping on a plane at 6am Friday to get down to Phillip Island, so I’m fortunate to be doing something not a lot of people in my area or age do.”
